Training for Aquaculture Trainer

LIPS held training for aquaculture trainer at Km8 Provincial Aquaculture Station in Pakse district Champasak province from 21st to 23rd February 2012. In total 10 VADW (Village Aquaculture Development Worker) candidates from five target clusters, where aquaculture extension activity is being conducted, participated in the training. The roles of VADW are to produce fingerlings and sell the fingerlings with technical advice to aquaculture farmers. It is called farmer to farmer extension approach. The objectives of the training are to learn how to teach basic aquaculture techniques, to understand the roles of VADW and to make an action plan for seed production. Lecture from VADWs fostered by AQIP2, which is the previous project supported by JICA, and the study tour to the aquaculture site of another VADW fostered by AQIP2 were very impressive for the participants. Department of Livestock and Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry gave the VADW certification to the participants. After the training, the VADWs will hold aquaculture training to other ordinary aquaculture farmers in their cluster at the middle of March.
