Baseline survey in 8 target sites

Photo

In order to understand the livelihood situation in the target sites by qualitative data and utilize the data as baseline for confirming achievement of the Project implementation in the Project termination, Baseline survey was conducted in 8 villages where the Project has implemented agricultural extension activities. The survey was conducted about 2 months from January 11th to March 15th:

Under the supervision of 2 field officers of both Japanese and Laotian, counterparts of province, district, and TSC (Technical Service center) asked questions to the villagers in each target village by using the questionnaire written by Lao language.

Totally 270 households including 1) participants of the Project activities, 2) non-participants for comparing with the participants, and 3) village veterinary workers who have conducted livestock extension activities in the village level were asked the questions in the 8 villages. About 40 counterparts were also involved in the survey.

Collected data in each village was inputted into MS Excel file by Lao field officer and analyzed by Japanese field officer. Finally, survey report was written by both field officers.

The results of the survey was quite interesting because the data clearly showed the characteristics of each village by following information such as how the villagers had made a living by agricultural, livestock, and fishery activities, how they had relied on natural resources, what and how much were produced and consumed, what and how much were sold for cash income and so on.

The results of the survey were also reported in PLFS (Provincial Livestock and Fishery Section) head's meeting in Salawan province on April 24th, 2012. Concrete suggestions were discussed in the meeting for more effective extension activities in the target sites.
