Photo

Livestock team of LIPS project carried out a technical training for cattle and goat rearing management to 7 counterparts in sub-project site from 5th to 7th June in LIPS project office in Pakse, Champasak. It was the 4th technical training out of 6 trainingss in all.

This training was held for staff members of Provincial and District Agriculture Offices in Champasak and Attpeu Provinces who have to extend livestock raising techniques to farmers under the condition of no manufactured assorted feed in the present situation of Lao PDR, therefore the training was conducted on the raising technique, especially for ruminant animals, namely cattle and goats can be kept by only grasses. For the implementation of this technical training, Mr. Fujita was invited as a short term expert from Tokachi Station of National Livestock Breeding Center in Japan.

Study subject was the feed and nutrition of ruminant animals on the first day, midwifery, nursing of newborn animals and disease on the second day, and the participants watched the educational video produced by Mr. Fujita and exchanged opinions each other on livestock production on the final day. It might be because all participants are government officials, they showed interest on the disease, especially foot and mouth disease more than the feed and nutrition field, which are very essential subjects in livestock husbandry.

It is expected that the participants will establish a unique livestock production system which is suitable for the land condition utilizing the techniques learnt through this training at not only the project sites but also other place in their provinces.
