Integrated Agriculture Team: Technical Transfer Workshop for Integrated Aquaculture

Technical transfer workshop for integrated aquaculture was organized in one of the Project sites, Doup village, Taoy District, Salawan Province on June 28, 2012. It seems difficult for core farmers in the cluster to become the lecturers of the training to teach general farmers. Instead of the training, the workshop was organized for promoting discussion about appropriate technologies among farmers. Two core farmers who have practiced integrated aquaculture and 19 farmers who would like to start integrated aquaculture (11 from Doup village and 8 from neighboring village, Pho Tang village) participated in the workshop.

After basic techniques of aquaculture were explained by the cluster staff, the participants visited agricultural fields of the core farmers. In the cluster, people usually use Taoy Language not Lao language. The participants and the core farmers hesitated to give their opinions in front of many people in the meeting room. However, they did opinion exchange actively by using their own language in their agricultural fields. It can be said that this style is also one kind of farmer to farmer extension.
