Hand-over ceremony of cattle at Sukhuma District

On Aug 28, 2012, the hand-over ceremony of cattle was held at Paksang Village, Hieng cluster, Sukuma District, Champasak Province. At the ceremony, a bull and fifteen cows were handed over from LIPS to the cluster, which are all native in Laos. In particular the bull had been kept by the Mong, that is one of the ethnics in Laos, and chosen as it was gentle and not suitable for bullfighting, which has been their traditional culture.

In the ceremony, there was a beef tasting party after the deed of the presentation conferred by the chief representative of JICA Laos Office, where neary 40 participants from the Lao central Government, the local governments, the villagers, Embassy of Japan and JICA enjoyed savory taste of beef.

LIPS presented the good quality Lao-native cattle to the villagers in Hieng cluster. These cattle are said to be Lao precious genetic resource. The project aims to improve livelihood of the cluster by transferring livestock skills to breed and regularly sell young cattle. This ceremony was held as its starting point. LIPS continues supporting and monitoring, hoping the goal of livelihood improvement will be achieved and newly produced beef will be special local product of this district.
