The 1st MA-SHEP Joint Coordinating Committee (JCC) Meeting Held

On 27th September 2017, the 1st MA-SHEP Joint Coordinating Committee (hereinafter referred to as "JCC") Meeting was held at the conference room of Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development (MoAIWD) in Lilongwe, Malawi.

In addition to MA-SHEP Project Team and JICA Malawi Office, representatives from Department of Agriculture Extension Services (DAES), Department of Crop Development (DCD), Department of Irrigation Services (DOI), Department of Agricultural Planning Services (DAPS), Department of Land Resources Conservation (DLRC), and Agriculture Sector Wide Approach (ASWAp)* participated in the JCC.

JCC will be held twice a year and whenever deems it necessary, in order to facilitate inter-organizational coordination. JCC approves an annual work plan, reviews overall progress, evaluates the project, and exchanges opinions on major issues that arise during project implementation.

In this meeting, achievements of the project and planned activities were reported and an initial version of MA-SHEP Package**, revised version of Plan of Operation as well as Implementation Plan were approved by the members of JCC.

Mr. Mataka, the Head of ASWAp Secretariat who attended the meeting, commented that "I'm very interested in this project. MA-SHEP has so many potentials." Furthermore, Dr. Changaya, the Controller of Agricultural Extension & Technical Services who chaired the meeting, commented that "I'm quite excited. Let us own this MA-SHEP project."

* ASWAp is a prioritized and harmonized agricultural investment framework towards the achievement of the Malawi Growth and Development Strategy (MDGS), the country's National Development Strategy.

** MA-SHEP Package is the particular series of market-oriented agricultural activities customized in Malawi based on the SHEP Approach.
