MA-SHEP conducted Periodical Data Survey Training in the 1st Batch Target Area

For the 2 days from 2th to 3th of May 2019, MA-SHEP conducted a Periodical Data Survey Training for extension staff responsible for the target farmer groups in the 1st Batch implementation districts. The purpose of the periodical data survey is to compare baseline data quantitatively, grasp the progress of activities such as positive impact for the income of the first batch target farmer groups. For this reason, we reconfirmed the baseline survey tools and introduced the key lessons learned from baseline survey when the frontline extension officers use the methods.

In this training, we taught each other how to use the tools through exercises and group work so that it is expected extension staff could carry out periodical data survey with the farmer groups smoothly. The training was also facilitated by five MA-SHEP Desk Officers from the first batch implementing districts. Especially, based on the lessons learned from the baseline survey, each facilitator provided a concrete explanation in which points the extension staff tended to make mistakes, such as how to calculate farmland plots, how to estimate production costs, and how to convert units to be handled.

In the closing remarks on the 3th May 2019, the project manager (Mr. Pearson Soko) stated that "frontline officers and farmers could understand how they improve their income quantitatively through the periodical data survey. So, it is an essential and important activity". Finally, each district officer presented qualitative success case of the district. The workshop emphasized the importance to grasp the progress of the project quantitatively and qualitatively.
