MA-SHEP held The 12th Technical Committee (TC) Meeting and 6th Joint Coordinating Committee (JCC) Meeting

Subsequent to the 12th MA-SHEP Technical Committee (TC) that was held on 1 April 2021, the 6th MA-SHEP Joint Coordinating Committee (JCC) was held on 12 April 2021 on Zoom online conference. The meetings were originally scheduled at the end of March 2020, but were postponed for about a year due to COVID-19 precautionary measures.

At this JCC meeting, MA-SHEP reported on the progress of project activities from October 2019 to March 2021 and the implementation plan for project activities from April 2021 to September 2021. In view of the current situation where substantial project activities were suspended from April 2020 to March 2021 due to COVID-19 measures, the Committee proposed to extend the project period, as it would be difficult to fully implement project activities in the next target areas within the current project period. The detail of the proposed extension period will be discussed in due course.

Mr. Nelson Mataka, the Head of National Agriculture Investment Plan (NAIP) secretariat, who chaired the JCC meeting on behalf of the Principal Secretary for Agriculture stated that, "MA-SHEP is contributing greatly to solving the problems of Malawian farmers and the Ministry is responsible to ensure the success of this project and we are committed to doing so. To this end, we are already working to mainstream the SHEP Approach into other agricultural programmes."
