Training in Japan, 30 May–11 June 2011

Seven working group members of the Project for the Capacity Development for Promoting Foreign Direct Investment (PRFDI) in Mongolia went to Japan on 30 May–11 June 2011 for training. The PRFDI is a capacity development project which aims to enhance the policy-making skills of government staff to better serve the needs and requirements of private investors. The project also intends to promote appropriate investment promotion services in the country.

The training in Japan was carried out to enhance the trainees' understanding of the following:

  1. Investment policy and promotion activities of central and local governments for possible adaptation in Mongolia. Visits to the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), Japanese Investment Promotion Agency (IPA) and its Invest Japan Business Support Center (IBSC), as well as to Hokkaido and Asahikawa, aimed at allowing trainees to understand the importance of such tasks as investment promotion, information collection and dissemination, website operation, and improvement of services to attract investment;
  2. Deciding factors for Japanese investors to invest and utilize such knowledge to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) in Mongolia. Toward this end, visits to Japanese trading companies were organized; and
  3. JICA activities in the fields of investment assistance and trading.

Mr. Z. Battushig, PRFDI project manager and vice chairman of the Foreign Investment and Foreign Trade Agency of Mongolia, headed the Mongolian trainees. Upon their return, they presented to the PRFDI Joint Coordinating Committee their experience and learning, as well as their plans to utilize them to serve the project's purpose.
