Seminar by a short-term expert (2)

On 5–8 July 2011, Mr. Makoto Nomura, visiting expert from Tokyo, was in Ulaanbaatar to lecture on foreign direct investment (FDI), database management, and quantitative analysis of FDI.

On the first day of his lecture, Mr. Nomura gave a two-hour presentation of the international statistical standards of FDI and the cooperation in statistical data collection and sharing among Japanese government agencies. In the remaining three days, he discussed the different perspectives about FDI from a macro-economic viewpoint and the practical use of quantitative analysis of FDI,. The seminar included a hands-on exercise on statistical analysis of FDI.

Since most of the participants did not have such knowledge and skills prior to the seminar, it can be considered successful in providing them with new knowledge and skills, Of the 10 participants who attended the seminar, six were from the Foreign Investment and Foreign Trade Agency (FIFTA) and one each from the Customs Office, Social Insurance Office, Tax Office, and the General Authority for State Registration. The first half of the seminar was held at the FIFTA office and the other half at the Mongolia-Japan Center for Human Resource Development.
