Conducted Seminar targeting "Commission of Health, Education and Social Protection for Children with Disabilities"

"Commission of Health, Education and Social Protection for Children with Disabilities" was organized in June 2014 aiming at early detection and intervention for Children with Disabilities (CWDs). The central commission was set up under National Rehabilitation and Development Center, Ministry of Population Development and Social Protection, and local commissions were organized in 9 districts of Ulaanbaatar, and in 21 Aimag (province). However, the said commissions are not fully functioning yet. The Project will help to clarify their roles and enhance skills and knowledge of the members.

On September 9, JICA Project Team conducted a seminar targeting the 9 local commissions in Ulaanbaatar, in cooperation with the central commission. Project experts (Professor Hayashi and Professor Hashimoto) introduced the Japanese system and practices on the early detection and intervention by using pictures and videos. They also emphasized that early childhood development and support for parents are important.

After the lecture, participants asked some questions and reported their current situation and issues. Since the commission consists of a doctor, psychologist, teacher, physiotherapist, and officers of social welfare department, their expertise and knowledge are different. Project Team will assist the commission to improve their knowledge and skills, and also unify their understanding on disabilities.
