5th workshops for teachers at 4 special schools

JICA Project Team has conducted workshops fortnightly at Special Schools No. 25, 55, 63, and 70 in Ulaanbaatar. Participants revised the existing format of Individual Education Plan (IEP) during the first and second workshops. In the third workshops, good educational practice in Japan was introduced by the participants who joined the training in Japan (November to December 2015). Japanese experts introduced examples of teaching methods during the fourth workshops.

In the fifth workshops, participants developed IEP for the selected children by observing class activities, indentifying individual needs and current ability, setting annual goals and semester-wise goals, and planning teaching strategies and resources.

Prior to the fifth workshops, Training Managers of each special school had a meeting and developed a new common IEP format by combining the best of existing IEP formats at each school. During the two days workshops at each school, Working Team (consisting of 8 to 10 teachers) and Japanese experts filled up this new format during the workshop by following the steps below.

The goals of IEP should be set by considering not only individual needs of the children, but also his/ her own future plan and parents' desires. Some participants said, "It was difficult for me to set annual goals in accordance with children's current ability" and "The new format is more user friendly".

Sixth workshops will be conducted to draw up teaching plans based on IEP followed by lesson study session at Seventh workshops. The project and teachers of four special schools will work on how to conduct the group lessons as a class while considering individual needs.
