"Joint activities and learning" between School No. 34 and Special School No.63

In Japan, "joint activities and learning" between regular school and special school, and regular class and special class is conducted to provide an opportunity for both children with and without disability to communicate with each other. A social worker of Special School No. 63 who attended the training in Japan last year would like to conduct a similar activity in Mongolia. On May 9, 2016, five students (Grade 7 and 8) from Special School No. 63 joined a physical education lesson at a regular school, School No. 34.

At the beginning of the lesson, the students of Special School No. 63 seemed to be a little nervous; however, they tried to catch up with students of School No.34. The five students joined in line with others, and actively participated in marching, jogging and exercising in the gymnasium.

After the warm up, all students were divided into five teams, and performed the activities shown in the picture below. Some students were explaining the rules of each activity to their teammates of Special School No. 63.

The final activity of the lesson was a competition among five teams on dribbling and flying disk. Students of both schools were very excited to participate in the competition.

After the lesson, students of Special School No. 63 commented as follows. "I was tired but I enjoyed the activities very much." "I used muscles which I don't normally use." "I felt as if I participated in a big competition." Those comments told us that they felt a sense of achievement through the lesson. The social worker of Special School No. 63 also found several good effects of "joint activities and learning".
