Poster Presentation to World Association of Lesson Studies 2017 International Conference

World Association of Lesson Studies was established in 2007 to promote the research and practices on Lesson Studies and to provide platform for research collaboration, mutual assistance and information exchange. It holds an international conference annually. The 11th International Conference was organized at Nagoya University, Japan, accommodated 28 forum/symposiums, more than 300 oral presentations, and approximately 60 poster presentations.

JICA Project Team for Strengthening Teachers' Ability and Reasonable Treatments for Children with Disabilities presented a poster on "Lesson Study and Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for Children with Special Educational Needs in Mongolia" to introduce research lessons in 4 pilot schools, and the effectiveness of IEP that was confirmed through lesson study.

Although the duration of presentation was less than 2 hours, around 40 participants stopped by our poster, and posed questions on education for children with special educational needs. Some were interested in IEP, and others were exploring the way to make inclusive education actualized in real life. Others were eager to learn the approach towards children with disabilities, as their government just started to include those children in the compulsory education. The presenters enjoyed discussion with them.

Former counterpart personnel of JICA Project for Teaching Methods Improvement Project towards Children's Development (2006-2009) and Strengthening Systems for Improving and Disseminating Child-Centered Teaching Methods (2009-2013) also attended the conference. They presented their lesson study practices, comparison of quality of lessons before and after the projects, and application of "transcript based lesson studies".
