Project News

The Project invited Mongolian counterparts to Japan and conducted training in four sessions for the purpose of supplementary inputs for activities in Mongolia. The main objective of the training is that participants obtain insights from Japanese practices, as well as creating an opportunity for personnel of central government, university, medical, education, and welfare field to discuss issues which Mongolia faces and explore solutions together by observing and listening to solving the same problems in Japan.

From September 9 to 22, the 4th training was conducted under the title of "Early intervention and Inclusive Learning Environment for Children with Disabilities". In the first week of the program, the participants learned about ideas such as "International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF)" and "Reasonable Accommodation", and life of persons with disabilities in local community. The participants from welfare and medical sector attended lectures and visited fields on early identification of disabilities and early intervention, while others from education sector visited schools.

In the second week, a lecture on learning-together education in Kansai area by a person with disability and his supporters, and field visits were conducted in kindergarten and elementary school where inclusive education is implemented. The program was concluded in a lecture entitled "International Trends on Inclusive Education".

The following table shows what the participants would like to practice in Mongolia. It was presented on the last day of the program.

From welfare and medical sector	Would like to involve students attending Special Needs Education course in the State University of Education into the mother-child program in Bayangol District. Would like to make a film on life of children with disabilities (CWDs). Respect their opinions and introduce their strong points. The system to support independent living is important. Would like to open a café where persons with disabilities work. Would like to share information obtained in Japan with district officers and kindergarten teachers and develop a map of local resources. Would like to use maternal and child health handbook and conduct health checkup effectively, provide parents of CWDs with information, and conduct case conferences to promote schooling of CWDs.
Education sector	Would like to reflect what the participants learned in Japan to the rules on inclusive education drafted by Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sports. Would like to prepare reasonable accommodation for CWDs, establish good relationship between them and other children, and involve parents into inclusive education. World like to promote schooling of CWDs in cooperation with Local Commission of Health, Education, and Social Protection. World like to establish "School committee to support CWDs". Would like to establish "Children Development Center" for students with learning difficulties.

Thanks to the great hospitality shown by the lecturers and organizations welcoming the participants, the training was completed meaningfully. The Project Team will keep supporting those participants to improve early intervention and education for CWDs as they utilize their learning from Japan.
