"What is DET? : Disability Equity Training"

(28th October 2016 and 4th November 2016)

In addition to support on environmental and information barriers, the Project works on "human barriers" such as discrimination against persons with disabilities through Disability Equity Training (known as DET). DET is a training program conducted by persons with disabilities (not by persons without disabilities). There are some airline companies or supermarkets already introduced DET in other countries. Ms. Teruya, the JICA expert will train Mongolian persons with disabilities to be a facilitator, then, the trained facilitator will conduct DET to Mongolian ministries or public organizations. On the 28th October and 4th November 2016, Ms. Teruya demonstrated DET to Mongolian persons with disabilities, government officers and public organizations.

In the training, Ms. Teruya asked audience ‘What is Disability?" then, the participants conducted dialogues, watched a video etc. to find out new perspectives on disability. After training, one participant from the Bank told us her expectation that Mongolian facilitators will conduct DET for her staffs to make their Bank make more inclusive for customers with disabilities. The Project plan to conduct DET for teachers of JICA project for "Strengthening Teachers' Ability and Reasonable Treatments for Children with Disabilities (START)" and 2 weeks' facilitator training for approx. 16 persons with disabilities in Mongolia.
