Conducted Situation Analysis in Teacher Training Institutes (IFP)

In May 2016, the Project conducted a survey, including class observation, to analyze the current situation of the new curriculum implementation in Teacher Training Institutes (IFP).

The Ministry of Education and Human Development (MINEDH) has been engaged in an education program since 2007 with one-year training period in IFPs to respond to an expanding demand for teachers. MINEDH understands that IFP students need to acquire more subject knowledge and higher teaching skills before being teachers. Therefore, MINEDH started implementing a new program with three-year training period as a trial in selected IFPs in 2012. Currently, seven IFPs are conducting the pre-service teacher education with the new curriculum.

Since the Project is supposed to contribute to the implementation of the new curriculum, it sent a study team to five IFPs in the Provinces of Cabo Delgado, Nampula, Tete, Inhambane and Gaza to grasp the current situation. The project will analyze the study results, and prepare for a more comprehensive baseline survey which will be conducted in August and September 2016.
