Participants in JICA Training in Japan returned!
"Project for expansion of new curriculum of Teacher Training Institute (IFP) in Mozambique"

The Mozambique participants of JICA training returned to Mozambique on 19th July. As soon as they returned, they set up their own meeting to summarize their experience in Japan. The participants reported their experience to Dr. Mahalambe, National Director of Teacher Training. In the meeting, Dr. Regina summarized the participants' impressions on the Japanese education and cultures as follows. ("Udon" became one of the most treasured food among them!)

We could observe a comprehensive learning process in Japan. We experienced cooking with children and noticed that the school is a reflection of the community. Especially, we learned about school organization and management, and participated in "Lesson Study". In this meeting, we noticed the importance of sharing and exchanging the knowledge and experiences among the teachers, and also the importance of superior persons' advice. I remember one advice was that a teacher should teach children by looking at the students' future. Lastly, we have learned about content development compared with what we have in Mozambique. Also, we enjoyed visiting to the historic places and exploring Japan by hearing explanations about ancient warriors.

Dr. Fabiao, who is a coordinator of mathematics team of the Project, expressed his motivation to the Project that he would try to apply what they have learned in Japan to the Mozambican context and enhance the learning process in Mozambique together with the mathematics team members.

Dr. Mahalambe closed the meeting saying that he was glad to know that he was not the only one who wanted to see change in teaching methodologies anymore, as now he feels that he has colleages who understand the significance of the change and address the challenges.
