Baseline Survey in PENCIFOP was Started
"Project for Expansion of New Curriculum of Teacher Training Institute (IFP) in Mozambique"

The Project has started to conduct the field survey of the baseline survey (BLS) on 22nd of August. It will last until 12th of September. The objectives of the BLS are to grasp the current situation of Teacher Training Institute (IFPs) and to evaluate the impact of developing learning materials for Mathematics and Natural Science through the Project.

Currently, there are 24 IFPs in Mozambique. The targets of the field survey are the 13 IFPs in the Provinces of Cabo Delgado, Nampula, Tete, Inhambane, Gaza, and Maputo excluding the Central areas due to lack of security. Out of the 13 IFPs, 6 IFPs have a new trial program with three-year training period, which the Ministry of Education and Human Development (MINEDH) will implement in all Provinces in the future (The new program with three-year training was described in the Project news in May 2016).

In the field survey, the Project has been working on diagnostic tests to identify IFP teachers and students' subject knowledge and teaching capacity in Mathematics and Natural Sciences. Also, the Project has been conducting questionnaires to grasp the current situation of the classes, the utilization of textbooks, and the level of "understanding" and "confidence" to teach each unit of the subject in IFPs.

On the 19th of August, a meeting was held to get the final confirmation of the program and management of the field survey from MINEDH. The Project Coordinator (National Director of Teacher Training) stated that he was looking forward to hearing about the results of the field survey.
