Conducted Seminar on Baseline Survey Findings
"Project for Expansion of New Curriculum of Teacher Training Institute (IFP) in Mozambique"

A seminar to share findings from the Baseline Survey was conducted on 27th, 28th February and 3rd March 2017.

The Baseline Survey was conducted to grasp the current situation and challenges of the Teacher Training Institutes (IFPs) in Mozambique. Two technicians from the Ministry of Education and Human Development (MINEDH), two Japanese experts and two research assistants visited 13 sIFPs in 6 provinces to collect baseline data through tests of mathematics and science, questionnaires and interviews for IFP teachers and students.

The seminar was attended by approximately 70 participants; Directors and Deputy Directors of IFPs, who took part in the survey, and staff from the MINEDH. On the first day of the seminar, a Japanese expert presented the results of the tests for IFP teachers and students. He explained that the attainment of students was generally low and there was a huge gap among and within the IFPs in the test results. On the second day, two technicians from the MINEDH presented problems and challenges on school management of IFPs based on the findings. After the presentation, a participatory workshop was conducted to consider actions to be taken by stakeholders. On the last day, technicians from National Institute of Education Development, which is in charge of curriculum development, analyzed the sequence of the curriculum for IFPs for future improvement.

Generally, participants highly evaluated the survey for its comprehensive and detailed analysis on IFPs. Furthermore, they agreed that they would work together to address challenges related to primary teacher training in Mozambique.
