4th JCC Meeting for the Project was Held
"Project for Expansion of New Curriculum of Teacher Training Institute (IFP) in Mozambique"

The 4th Joint Coordinating Committee (JCC) meeting was held on June 15 at the Ministry of Education and Human Development. The project team reported the progress from previous JCC held on November, 2016 to current and proposed the future schedule.

The Mathematics Education team discussed two mathematical definitions, namely, whether zero is included in natural numbers or not, and which mathematical symbol should be used as a symbol of subsection, ⊃ or ⊇. Such definitions and symbols should be determined at the national level; they should be consistent from the primary to the higher education within the country. It seems that there had been no such discussion before, in addition, the General Director of the National Institute of Education Development (INDE) who are responsible for the national curriculum and textbooks mentioned that it was necessary to hold a discussion with Mozambique Mathematic professionals. It might be part of the project's impact to share such recognition among related people.

The Natural Sciences team presented their plan for elaboration of learning materials. The current modules include many contents beyond the primary level such as detailed explanation about cell and calculation of velocity. Furthermore, the baseline survey of the project revealed that the IFP teachers and students did not fully acquire subject knowledge of the primary education level. Therefore, the plan says that the new modules basically deal with contents in primary education level and clearly indicate that the contents are "advanced" ones in case of giving the contents beyond the primary education.

The project team presented the result of the monitoring of "Module of Mathematics I". Also, it proposed development process of the competency list for IFP students. The JCC members appreciated the progress of the project and approved all the future plans.
