Project News in June 2016 (3)

GIS and RS Basic Training Course was conducted

GIS and RS Basic Training Course for the YAU academic staff who are the members of pilot research groups was organized in collaboration with a Myanmar private agency from 6th to 15th June 2016. Several pilot research groups plan to implement their research using GIS and RS, but there have been no experience and no facilities to use such technology for research in YAU.

The course contained "Introduction of Geographical Information System (GIS)", "Data Analysis", "Application of Google Earth", "Basic Knowledge of Remote Sensing (RS)", "Introduction of Satellite Imagery", "Using GPS", "Integration of RS and GIS" and others.

Twenty trainees and more than ten observers took the course, and this indicates how much they are interested in applying the technology to agricultural research. The Project intends to continue the courses and to invite short-term expert from Japan for transferring knowledge and techniques of GIS and Drone to the academic staff and graduate students in order to contribute to the betterment of education and research in YAU.
