YAU-JICATCP short-term expert Training Program "Soil Microbiology and Analytical Chemistry" was conducted:

Dr. TOYOTA Koki, Professor of the Department of Bio-Applications and Systems Engineering, Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, Tokyo, Japan arrived at Yezin Agricultural University on 21st August and the same day, he screened all necessary equipment and held meeting with counterparts concerned for the preparation of the program. The training on "Soil Microbiology and Analytical Chemistry" was conducted from 22nd to 30th August for 13 trainees and 22 observers nominated from each department of YAU.

Training course contained basic lectures of soil microbe and analytical chemistry, and provided practical training with regard to the equipment provided by JICA Grant-Aid project. Dr. TOYOTA instructed 1) systematic use of equipment including maintenance, 2) method of operation and measuring, and 3) concept to apply the results of analysis to agricultural research. Basic theory of statistical approach in analytical chemistry and calculation practices were also lectured. Participants had exrcise to operate Gas Chromatography (GC)、High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), UV-VIS Spectrophotometer and Real-time PCR with instruction of Dr. TOYOTA.

Taking this opportunity, Dr. TOYOTA gave a public lecture on "Approach to Sustainable Crop Production" as the 7th YAU JICATCP Special Lecture on 29th August.
