Project News in December 2016 (2)

Implementation of Pilot Research

Each research group in the Pilot Research Program conducted fieldworks as follows.

  • 1st -27th December:
    RC-01-2 group collected information and samples related to post-harvest loss of sesame in Pakokku Township, Magway.
  • 2nd-4th and 18th -19th December:
    RA-01-1 group collected local rice varieties and interviewed with farmers in at deep-water-rice growing area in Thanatpin TS in Bago.
  • 4th, 10th, 18th, 25th, and 31st December:
    RB-03 group collected insects and re-installed insect traps in 7 Townships in Nay Pyi Taw.
  • 4th-7th and 23rd-25th December:
    RB-01-1 group conducted surveys on beans and vegetables at Phyinmana TS in Nay Pyi Taw.
  • 17th-22nd and 26th-31st December:
    RB-01-1 group conducted surveys on beans and vegetables at Tonegwa TS in Yangon.
  • 22nd December – 1st January:
    RA-03 group conducted surveys and interviewed to collect relevant information related to climate change and appropriate countermeasures taken by farmers in Thazi TS in Mandalay.
  • 24th December:
    RA02-2 collected samples at Takkone TS in Nay Pyi Taw.

Laboratory and in-farm experiments were also conducted using the samples collected through previous surveys.

  • RA-01-1
    Plant Breeding group harvested multiplied seed samples and prepare the fields for next multiplication.
  • RA-02-1 (Plant Pathology group)
    Pathogens of rice blast and leaf blight collected in Zaya Thiri and Phyinmana were continuously cultured, and bacterial specimens from these samples were preserved.
  • RB-03-1 (Entomology and Zoology group)
    The data related to chronological and seasonal changes of harmful insects, such as the kind of insects and population, has been accumulated to establish insect alert model.
  • RC-01-1 (Agronomy group)
    The oil contents of sesame seeds collected at farms and in supply chains were measured.
  • RC-01-2:
    Data analysis for those collected in the fields started.
