CF Certification Ceremonies were Held

September 18 to 25, 2012

As a part of Output1 activities, final CF management plans of 6-target CFUSGs (CF user groups) were submitted to FD in June. In response to this, FD issued CF certificates signed by Myaung Mya District officer on 31st July. CFUSGs have roles and responsibilities to appropriately manage and use forests in their CF areas. In accordance with the Community Forestry Instruction, duration of the land use right (i.e. 30 years from certificate date) as well as rights and responsibilities were stated at a backside of each certificate. Even though stated in the backside, the duration of land use right is seldom described in previous CF certificates in Myanmar Therefore the statement can be regarded as one of substantial progress for CF activities in Myanmar.

From reformulation of CFUGs to CF certification, it took more than one year for the Project. This was because it took more time than what was originally expected for reformulation of CFUSGs, preparation of CFUSG by-laws, and settlements for land conflicts. CF certification ceremonies were held by the Project at four locations inside project area with expectation that CFUGs would make further progress in CF activities in collaboration with FD. Attached to the ceremonies, group management trainings which include accounting and record taking activities, were organized to provide practical skills for key members of CFUSGs for their group managment.
