From 18 November to 7 December, 2012, the terminal evaluation for the Project was conducted by a joint evaluation team consisted of representatives from Myanmar side and Japanese side. Project related FD officers and JICA Expert Team collaborated with the joint evaluation team for smooth conduct of the evaluation.

The joint evaluation team prepared a joint evaluation report and concluded that:

(1) Project Purpose "The communities and the mangrove forests co-exist in a sustainable manner in the selected areas where project activities were implemented within the Ayeyawady Delta" is expected to achieve mostly. Therefore, the Project can be completed in March 2013 as scheduled.

(2) CF activities will not automatically lead to improvement of income levels of communities, therefore Overall Goal "The mangrove forests are sustainably managed and poverty is alleviated among the communities in the Ayeyawady Delta" is hardly expected to achieve within three (3) years after the completion of the Project.

In addition, the joint evaluation team provided lessons learnt as well as recommendations to the Project and also to the Forest Department and JICA.

The joint evaluation team suggested the Project to organize a technical workshop related to mangrove forestry based on findings and lessons from relevant project activities, in addition to already scheduled mangrove final seminar.
