Technical Workshop for Mangrove Forestry in Yangon

Reflecting recommendation of the terminal evaluation mission, a technical workshop for mangrove forestry was held in Yangon on 27 February 2013. JICA expert Team and FD counterpart officers made presentations related to findings and lessons learnt from preparation of Community Forestry Standardized Operation Procedure (CF-SOP), implementation of Action Research Plantation (ARP), updating of a land use map and a hazard map in the project. Participants had lively discussions in questions and answers sessions followed after the presentations.

During the workshop, Mr. Eiji KAWAI, Senior Researcher of Japan Association for Forest and Natural Environment Engineering Education (JAFEE), made a special presentation titled "Restoration of tsunami damaged coastal protection forests in Japan". Mr. Kawai presented case studies from the Great East Japan Earthquake which struck Japan in March 2011. At the end of the workshop, participants had group discussions regarding mangrove forestry to exchange opinions among each other.
