Field survey by Working Group 3

Dr. Eiji Haramoto and his five students (University of Yamanashi), Prof. Kazunari Sei and Dr. Takashi Furukawa (Kitasato University) visited Kathmandu between August 10 and 23, 2018, for field survey. They collected wastewater samples from seven wastewater treatment plants located in the Kathmandu Valley and analyzed health-related water microorganisms, such as Escherichia coli and protozoa. Prof. Jeevan B. Sherchand and Mr. Ocean Thakari (Tribhuvan University) kindly supported laboratory experiments for those samples.

Water sampling was also conducted at three Locally-fitted, Compact, and Distributed (LCD) water treatment systems installed by Working Group 4 members (Chyasal, Chapacho, and Lokanthali districts) to evaluate the levels of contamination of health-related microorganisms in raw water and their reduction during the water treatment process.
