3-11. Training on Inclusion of Children with Disabilities in Day Care Centers

The "Training on Inclusion of Children with Disabilities in Day Care Centers" for Day Care Teachers was held on November 22-25, 2011 at the TESDA Training Center in New Lucena and the Iloilo Grand Hotel in Iloilo City. Participants consisted of twenty one (21) Day Care Teachers, a Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officer (MSWDO) of New Lucena, a NHE Focal Person, leaders of the group of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and others with potential to become day care teachers in the future.

The four-day-training was designed to equip with New Lucena Day Care Teachers with basic knowledge of disability affairs and children with disabilities, and to develop their attitudinal foundation to be supporters/advocates for the inclusion of children with disabilities in Day Care Centers.

The program contents consisted of as follows:

  • Inclusion of children with disabilities to day care centers and schools;
  • Major Philippine laws/regulations on PWDs such as the legal framework to support "inclusion" of children with disabilities in the Philippines;
  • Understandings of children with learning and other disabilities; and
  • Development of rapid-planning on inclusion of children with disabilities in each Barangay Day Care Center of New Lucena.
