"Baseline Survey"

In order to understand the current situation and challenges related to the dissemination and utilization of the EQUITV Program in the target areas, the project team conducted a baseline survey.

Monitoring team including three JICA experts visited the target province respectively, NCD, Central, Western Highland and East Sepik. They conducted the meeting with officers in the provincial education office and people concerned in target schools for the baseline survey.

The major surveying items are as follows;

  1. Basic school information
  2. Situation analysis of the dissemination of the EQUITV Program.
  3. Situation analysis on Classroom Teaching and Teaching Skill.
  4. Situation analysis on Learning and Attendance of Students.

The collected data will be analyzed and results of the analysis will be used to set the indicators for the following monitoring survey which are the criteria of measuring the effect of the Project. Both collected data in baseline and monitoring survey will be used in making comparison between the before and after of project implementation which will present the quantitative outcome. The baseline survey report will be compiled and referred in the project planning activities.

"Visit to Teachers Colleges"

Activities for output 3, Students at teachers colleges are familiarized with how to utilize EQUITV Program in classroom teaching. The Project aims at achieving to set the EQUITV Program in the curriculum at the target teachers colleges by which every student could become equipped with the skill to utilize EQUITV Program when they graduate. It is one of sustainable ways of input that once the EQUITV Program becomes a part of curriculum it will automatically reach all prospective teachers.

In early August, JICA expert and counterparts conducted the survey on the current curriculum at the target teacher colleges and examined the possible way of setting the EQUITV Program in.

Out of 10 target teacher colleges they visited two colleges, Bomana TC in NCD and Madang TC in Madang Province. The purpose of visit was to explain the EQUITV Project Phase 2 and build the supportive environment toward the Project. They successfully held the meeting with people concerned and discussed the further activities to be introduced in 2013.
