In Belgrade, buses provided by Japan in 2002 through grant aid are still popular as a citizen's mean of transport. However, under the current situation with the rapid expansion of the city and population growth, it is the challange for the city to maintain public transport according to the actual needs, and also, in recent years, the city has made environmental conservation an important issue and has decided to shift to new eco-friendly public transportation systems such as as electric buses.
In order to build an eco-friendly public transportation systems that the city is targeting, it is important to reduce the financial burden of the public transportation sector and to promote the updating vehicle facilities that meet environmental standards. Thus, this project aims to develop ability of Secretariat for Public Transport (SfPT) who is responsible for plan & management of the public transport in Belgrade to improve the operational efficiency of public buses, trams and trolleybuses, which are the primary means of transportation for Belgrade citizens.
