Rehabilitation of Hospital Incinerator

Photo

An incinerator was erected by Medicine Sans Frontier (MSF) to dispose of medical wastes at the Kambia Government Hospital. After a period of time, the incinerator got damaged and was abandoned. The DHMT prioritized its activities and the rehabilitation of the hospital incinerator was chosen as one of three activities to be funded by JICA. The DHMT, in collaboration with JICA then invited the Environmental Health Officer from the Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MOHS) to advise on the rehabilitation of the existing incinerator to national standard. The rehabilitation was completed in February 2010. In addition, training was conducted by the DHMT for hospital staff including porters, cleaners, labourers and some ward attendants on the proper ways of collecting, segregating, transporting and disposal of medical wastes.
