The second Health Day celebration was combined with the launching of the 'Mami En Pikin Well Bodi Week' (Mother and Child Health Week). JICA collaborated with the Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MOHS) and UNICEF to celebrate this occasion. Since the theme for the launching ceremony focused on Malaria, JICA supported the occasion by providing 1,500 bed nets for children less than five years of age. About 600 participants from various organizations and the public attended. More than 300 participants, dressed in T-Shirts with Project Logo and writings; ‘Mami En Pikin Well Bodi Week' and ‘Kambia Health Day', marched towards the Government Hospital where the ceremony was held. Various Health Messages were displayed in the eight (8) booths constructed for exhibitions during the ceremony. Two local drama groups were invited and they gave the welcome song with Health Messages and also demonstrated the proper use of the bed net during the ceremony. To climax the occasion, the seven (7) Best Peripheral Health Units (PHUs) in 2009 were selected and given Food Baskets as awards.
