Focus group discussion in the community (Saselamani, Vhembe district, Limpopo province)

On 20th October, the project team visited the Saselamani community, Vhembe district, Limpopo province and conducted a focus group discussion with persons with disabilities and stakeholders.

Although 20 people were expected to participate, more than 50 participants gathered at the primary school. In the discussion, difficulties that persons with disabilities are facing in community such as discrimination against persons with disabilities in community, issues on disability grant (e.g., the grant is taken out of the possession of persons with disabilities), limited education and employment opportunities and difficulty to obtain wheelchair were shared. The project team proposed to establish self-help group of persons with disabilities and that of parents of persons with disabilities in community. It follows that a number of participants showed interests and hoped to participate in the self-help group.
