2nd Joint Coordinating Committee (JCC) was held

On 14th March 2017, the 2nd Joint Coordinating Committee (JCC) was held at the national Department of Social Development (DSD) in Pretoria. 30 people including DSD officials and persons with disabilities in communities participated and actively discussed 1) to monitor and evaluate the progress and achievements of the project activities, 2) to approve the indicators of the Project Design Matrix (PDM), and 3) to approve the annual activity plan 2017/18.

The progress of the project activities in the project site was reported by Ms. Johanna Thabathi, provincial disability coordinator. Mr. Judas Mayevu representing persons with disabilities in community reported the learnings from the training in Japan and activities conducted in his village.

The results of the baseline survey was shared by Ms. Manthipi Molamu, project manager of the Project. The results revealed that persons with disabilities are facing a variety of challenges, for example, more than 90% of persons with disabilities are not working and about 50% of persons with disabilities feel they are not respected.

Based on the results of the baseline survey, the annual project activity plan 2017/18 focusing on empowerment of persons with disabilities and promotion of social participation of persons with disabilities through disability mainstreaming and advocacy activities was approved by the participants. The Project will accelerate implementing activities in the project site based on the approved annual activity plan.
