Community assistants promote the project activities in villages

Ms Victoria and Mr Leonard who are living in Makahlule village in Vhembe district, Limpopo province agreed to support the project activities as community assistants.

The tasks of community assistant are 1) to hold regular meetings with community leaders and ward councillors, 2) to visit homes of persons with disabilities, 3) to support establishment and strengthening of self-help groups of persons with disabilities, 4) to support / conduct advocacy activities targeting on parents of children with disabilities and teachers etc., and 5) to coordinate with stakeholders for the visitation of the project team in Makahlule village and neighbouring villages such as Makuleke village.

Their activities are conducted twice in a week and daily report is submitted to the project team on the day of activity. Owing to their activities, the project team is able to know the situations and needs of persons with disabilities in the villages and it makes easier for the project team to plan next necessary activities for persons with disabilities. In addition, it is expected that activities on empowerment of persons with disabilities are expanded to neighbouring villages.
