Launching ceremony was held on June 16th, 2011

A launching ceremony for “Capacity Development Project for Provision of the Services for Basic Human Needs in Kassala” was held at a large conference hall in Kassala State, east Sudan, on June 16th, 2011.  Mr. Ali Awad M. Musa, Deputy Governor of Kassala and Minister of Education, Mr. Yoichi Nakashima, Consular of Embassy of Japan, Mr. Hiroyuki Mori, Resident Representative of JICA Sudan Office attended the ceremony as well as senior state officers and locality heads.  After speeches from the guests, the team leader and 4 cluster leaders made presentations on the outline of the Project.  Then Kassala citizens welcomed the project team with their traditional dance and martial arts.

This event introduced the Project directly to the senior state officers and locality heads.  Also the local TV and newspapers brought this event to many citizens in Kassala.  The State Government of Kassala has a strong ownership and is keen to play an active role in conducting the Project with the JICA experts.  The Project aims to bring visible impacts to the local population through improving the public service by the State Government, so that they can enjoy the 'fruit of peace and development’.  The State Government and the citizens have high expectation for this challenging Project.  JICA experts will make utmost efforts with the counterparts to meet this expectation.

In addition, based on the discussion with the state officers and Project staff, the Project was nicknamed “Kassala Take Off Project (K-TOP)”, which could show their enthusiasm to boost Kassala State to the top among Sudan states.
