Kassala State Government started to use Japanese Kaizen approach to improve their organization

Directorate of Planning and Development (DPD) of Kassala State Government started to implement Kaizen activities as follows, after participating Kaizen training in Japan in September 2011.

  1. Organized a seminar to report Kaizen training in Japan for all staff in DPD (October 2011).
  2. Installed Suggestion Box in DPD so that every staff can propose Kaizen activity to improve their work or workplace (from November 2011).
  3. Organized Kaizen meetings in DPD every two weeks to discuss and select the best ideas from the proposals collected in the Suggestion Box, and implement the selected activities by assigning the persons in charge (from November 2011).
  4. Prepared and organized continuous training on Kaizen (from January 2012).

As a result of the above processes, the following major Kaizen activities were selected and implemented voluntarily by DPD staff:

  • a) Paint DPD Office Building in green to make all staff feel happy and relaxed in the workplace (October 2011).
  • b) Clean, rehabilitate and plant flowers in the abandoned courtyard in DPD compound (December 2011).
  • c) Update socio-economic database in Kassala State in order to collect basic information for monitoring and evaluation of development activities (from March 2012).
