Kaizen activities by State Government are getting attention in Sudan as well as in Japan

After Kassala State Government started to implement Kaizen activities, they are gaining public attentions both in Sudan and in Japan. On 18th-20th December 2011, the Federal Ministry of Industry organized "the First International Conference of the Quality of Industry and Services" in Rotana Hotel, Khartoum, and DPD presented "Kaizen experiences in Kassala". Many participants were interested in Kassala State Government's experiences to introduce Japanese Kaizen management system for the improvements of public services by the local government. The participants from Darfur State and South Kordofan State requested Kassala State Government training in their states.

DPD started Kaizen activities by introducing simple 5S "Seiri" (Sort), "Seiton" (Set in Order), "Seiso" (Shine), "Seiketsu" (Standardize) and "Shitsuke" (Sustain) activities, but in order to proceed to the participatory problem-solving activities which aims at finding the root causes of the problems and changing the office culture, continuous training is necessary. The project translated some of Japanese Kaizen materials into English and Arabic. One of the translated materials is Kaizen comic book which was originally produced by Tottori Prefecture in order to improve their staff's awareness on Kaizen approach. This comic book now became quite popular among Sudanese who happened to visit JICA Sudan Office in Khartoum or K-TOP Project Office in Kassala. The project plans to utilize this Arabic comic book in the future training on Kaizen.
