Challenge of Training of Trainer Cooperated by Company

PhotoTraining on Electronic Fuel Injection System in KVTC

"Made in Japan. Mia! Mia!"

Sudanese tend to speak to Japanese by using these words. It means "Made in Japan is perfect". Japan and Sudan has a long distance and there is few people exchange. However, since a car or a home electronic appliance made in Japan is now popular in Sudan, Japan is well known and has a very good image based on the high quality of the products. In fact, even an old used car made in Japan will keep its high price.

Because of such image, Sudanese expectation of learning Japanese technique is high. However, at the same time, there is a fact that a vocational training center tends to be seen as a place for just learning skills and does not connect to getting employment. In order to overcome such situation, Kassala Vocational Training Center (KVTC) provided Training of Trainers (TOT) in corporation with a company in two courses, "Basic Course on Electronic Fuel Injection System" and "Basic Course on Hydraulic System".

In this project, at first, we conducted the two courses toward trainers in KVTC. After completing the courses, we provided opportunities for the trainers who earned the way of training to teach the same courses in a company. This approach aims to strengthen the connection between KVTC and the company where has job opportunities for graduates, through the diffusion of technology from Japanese to KVTC trainers and from KVTC trainers to the company.

This time, Sudan Sugar Company, a national company which has a broad sugar cane field, a sugar factory and agricultural machines, was chosen for implementing the course in the company. We are now establishing give-and-take relationship by, on one hand, KVTC offers educational opportunities for employees in the company and, on the other hand, Sudan Sugar Company accepts OJT (on the job training) for KVTC trainees. Furthermore, for KVTC trainers, the training courses in the company made them confident because they could provide the courses in the technical level which is required in the company.

Although it is not easy to find a place of employment by the vocational training center itself, TOT in corporation with the company will be one of the effective measures. We believe supporting what Sudanese can do in Sudan and make them able to solve the problem by their selves is the way of aid in "Kassala Take-Off Project (K-TOP)", and that is what we are aiming.
