Aleppo and Idlib Governorate Health Offices jointly organized the Orientation Workshop in which the directors of Health Directorates of the two governorates acted as hosts. As it was held at the Aleppo Medical Association Building, the chairperson of the Association also attended. As a result, the workshop was held in a formal mood. Besides concerned people in Aleppo and Idlib governorates, there were representatives from Raqqa governorate and Damascus as observers, and four Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCVs) assigned to Manbej. The number of participants amounted to 59 in total.

After the opening speeches, the project team showed a video program introducing Phase 1 performance and Phase 2 plan. This was followed by the summary report on the completed health facility survey, and activity reports by the four JOCVs.

The second half of the session was devoted to the presentations by the directors of district health offices. The inclusion of these presentations was decided at the meeting of Joint PTC held earlier in the month. The presentations contained the features, performances in 2009, and plans for 2010 of the respective districts. The presentations provided them with the first opportunity to formulate their district health administration plans, and all participants with an opportunity to grasp their current capacities in analyzing, planning and making presentations. In this way, this session seemed to have achieved a certain effect. In the future, the working team in each district will work on making a concrete plan to finalize the 2010 plan of the districts by the training course in May, 2010.
