"National Quality Improvement Forum on Health Care in Tanzania", which was started four years ago with the support from the Project, had its fourth conference at the Bank of Tanzania Conference Hall on 30-31 October, 2014. Thirty Four (34) abstracts were presented orally and twenty two (22) abstracts were displayed as posters under the theme of "Achieving Quality of Health and Social welfare Services by Applying Standards". Over 300 people participated in the 4th Forum from all over the country as well as from outside Tanzania.

Honorable Vice President of the Republic of Tanzania Dr. Bilal officially opened the Forum along with honorable Minister of Health and Social Welfare. During the Opening, several health facilities were awarded for their contribution to improvement of health services. IPC (Infection Prevention and Control) Office of Mbeya Zonal Referral Hospital was awarded "BEST KAIZEN AWARD" for "improvement of waste segregation at the point of collection in the hospital" and Dr. Kiwelu of the Hospital received the AWARD from Vice President Dr. Bilal.

After the Opening, Vice President Dr. Bilal and Minister of Health and Social Welfare Dr. Rashid and JICA Chief Representative Mr. Onishi toured booths of partners for quality improvement of health services. As they were given a briefing about 5S-KAIZEN-TQM Approaches at JICA Booth, Vice President Dr. Bilal was very impressed by the effectiveness of its approaches.

Four abstracts were presented by the health facilities supported by the Project, namely, Muhimbili National Hospital, Mbeya Zonal Referral Hospital, and KCMC. The Project is ending its four years cooperation on 17th November 2014. However, we trust that the seed of "quality improvement of health services" planted by the Project will be taken care by the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and will continue to grow through NQIF.
