Training package for comprehensive supportive supervision and mentoring (CSS&M) on HIV and AIDS health services is released (August 2011)

Training package for CSS&M on HIV and AIDS health services is completed and released in August 2011.

In March 2010, a Manual and Tools for Comprehensive Supportive Supervision and Mentoring (CSS&M) on HIV and AIDS Health Services were developed for quality improvement (QI) of HIV and AIDS health services. Operationalization of CSS&M in accordance with the manual requires some inputs including development of an intensive training course for supervisors and mentors, who are to be equipped with the required knowledge and skills, and to change their mindset for QI.

This training package has been developed in response to the needs. Key stakeholders such as representatives from National AIDS Control Programme (NACP), Regional Health Management Teams (RHMTs), Council Health Management Teams (CHMTs), intervention-specific practitioners and Implementing Partners (IPs) were involved in the development process. Three trial training courses were organized for the draft materials to be tested. Modification was made by incorporating suggestions and comments from the trainers and the participants and officially approved in August 2011.

The package includes Participants' Manual, Facilitator's Guide and Facilitation Slides. The recommended duration of the training is six days, and can be extended depending on the needs and capacity of the participants. The training is an initial step, and alone it cannot make supervisors and mentors effective enough in changing their practices.

The package has been distributed to all IPs with expectation of their implementation of training using the package for capacity building of regional and council level personnel in their catchment areas.
