Project intensively trains supervisors and mentors in Dodoma and Pwani (January – March 2012)

The Project intensively trained supervisors and mentors for comprehensive supportive supervision and mentoring (CSS&M) in the two model regions during January – March 2012. In total, 121 supervisors and mentors were trained through 4 training courses in the period. The training course has 6 days focusing on essential knowledge, skills and application for CSS&M with five days of theory and exercises and one-day practicum. A variety of teaching and learning methodologies are used for the training, such as lectures, plenary discussions, group work and presentations, case studies and role plays. Supervisors and mentors learn together during the first three days. On the 4th day they are separated, thoroughly go through the process and tools of CSS and mentoring respectively and conduct role plays using the tools. On the 5th day, practicum is conducted at 4-5 selected health facilities to give the participants an opportunity to have hands-on application of learned knowledge and skills. On the 6th day, participants present and share the field reports and discuss issues in the plenary.

The training was highly appreciated by the participants and the participants are expected to operationalize CSS&M as soon as possible at their working stations.
