Training is expanded with support from partners (May 2014)

Since the release of the training package in August 2011, training of comprehensive supportive supervision and mentoring on HIV and AIDS health services (CSS&M) has been implemented throughout the country in collaboration with partners such as AIDS Relief, EGPAF, ICAP, ITECH, TUNAJALI, CDC and DOD. As of the end of May 2014, in total 923 (512 supervisors, 410 mentors and 1 unknown) have been trained, of which 246 were trained by the Project and 677 by other partners. Regional distribution of the trained supervisors and mentors is as shown in the graph below.

In Tanzania, IPs supporting anti-retroviral therapy (ART) and opportunistic infections (OIs) treatment are assigned to specific regions in order to avoid duplication of efforts. Implementation of CSS&M training depends on the IPs' commitment and availability of funds and therefore the trained personnel are not equally distributed. Pwani region has more trained supervisors and mentors because of the support from JICA and ICAP. Geita, Katavi, Njombe and Simiyu are new regions established since 2012 and have missed opportunities of training conducted so far.
