Training in Colombo, Sri Lanka

As a part of the KAIZEN project, the Tanzania KAIZEN Unit (TKU) staff and officials from the implementing organizations; Ministry of Industry and Trade (MIT), College of Business Education (CBE), and Small Industries Development Organization (SIDO) attended a short training in Colombo, Sri Lanka between 11th and 17th October.

Generally, the aim of the training was to learn the KAIZEN practices undertaken by various model institutions/organizations so as to establish a framework for disseminating and sustaining KAIZEN activities across Tanzania.

We participated in the International Convention on QC (Quality Control) Circles for the first two days. There were more than 200 case study presentations from 14 countries/areas. The TKU staff made a presentation for the KAIZEN project in Tanzania, including establishing the TKU in 2013, implementing 5S-KAIZEN activities in manufacturing sector and a scheme of training the KAIZEN Master trainers. For the rest two days, we got the opportunity to visit and learn from the National Productivity Secretariat (NPS) which is under the Ministry of Productivity and Promotion and the model companies/institutions. We understood the level of implementing 5S-KAIZEN activities in other countries. In addition, we recognized that holding an award competition among companies is helpful to create awareness.
