The 4th Annual Public Technical Seminar is Held

The 4th public technical seminar on "Innovation on Production and Automotive Utilization of Biofuels from Non-food Biomass" was held on the 18th November at IMPACT Muang Tong Thani.

At the same venue, IMPACT, our project exhibited H-FAME technology for TECHNOMART which had been from November 14 to 25.

This annual seminar aims to share the progress and outcome of research in the project not only to researchers of the project but also to all parties involved in Biofuels so that it will hopefully contribute to the technical advancement of Biofuel production and its utilization.

We invited Mr. Yongyuth Sawatdisawanee, the Director of Bureau of Biofuel Development, Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency (DEDE) as a speaker for the keynote speech.

He stated that the Thai government has revised its Alternative Energy Development Plan (2015-2036) this year, setting a target of 30% of total energy consumption covered by renewable energy. The Biodiesel Action Plan targets biodiesel blending ratio increase to 20% in 2036 from current ratio of 7%.

In order to achieve that target, an H-FAME, for the first time, was included as potential fuel to increase % blending of biodiesel action plan, which is one of great results that our project has achieved and the project members are proud of.

This technical seminar consisted of four sessions:

  • High Quality Biodiesel/ Engine Performance Evaluation; Technical results and conclusion from the 50,000km on-road test using an Isuzu vehicle fueled with B20, 20% blend of H-FAME from palm oil (developed and upgraded in the project) in diesel
  • Challenge on Bio-oil; Research on production of bio-oil from Jatropha residues and its upgrading
  • Environmental Impact/ Technology Transfer; Life Cycle Assessment and Feasibility study of Jatropha H-FAME
  • Panel discussion on raw materials, commercialization, and future direction

The panel discussed plans to continue research works such as shifting to Demonstration Plan scheme founded by New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), Third Country Training Program founded by TICA and JICA, Biomass Open Research Center in Thailand etc. Each session provided an opportunity for lively exchange of information and views on Biofuels from Biomass.
