As an initial step of pilot implementation, PRTR awareness raising workshops continue to be held, in collaboration with the Department of Industrial Works and the Rayong Provincial Industry Office. Recently, three workshops were organized on January 15 and 31, 2013, covering two industrial cluster areas of Rayong province – Muang Rayong district and Pluak Deang district.
Led by Mr. Decha Pimpisut, acting advisor of the Industrial Environment Research and Development Bureau, a PRTR team delivered a series of presentations introducing the PRTR system, definition of target emission sources, and target chemical substances under PRTR, including an overview of emission estimation. Ms. Sirakarn Leungsakul further explained the PRTR pilot project to be implemented in 2013, emphasizing the crucial role of the industrial sector, as well as requesting cooperation. The response from local industry was positive, with more than 200 representatives from factories located in industrial parks/land/zones and stand-alones expressing their interest in participating in the workshops.
Upon completion of the awareness-raising phase, another PRTR workshop for local administrative officers, community leaders, and other potential point sources will be organized in March 2013.
