5th NGO Dialogue Meeting at PCD

The 5th NGO dialogue meeting was held on October 8, 2013, at the Pollution Control Department (PCD). Representatives from Ecological Alert and Recovery Thailand (EARTH), Greenpeace Southeast Asia, Environmental Law for the Wants (EnLaw), and Global Warming Academy Foundation Thailand (GWAFT) actively participated in the meeting.

This meeting was organized and led as the NGO side's initiative, in order to encourage mutual exchange of information and active discussion. It started with EARTH providing a summary of comparisons of the Japanese PRTR system and the PRTR pilot project in Thailand. This was followed by the PRTR project counterpart team reporting the progress of the pilot project in Rayong province, including point-source estimation and reporting procedures workshops, and the risk communication promotion measures.

Another intensive discussion was about the target substances in the pilot implementation. A JICA expert explained that comprehensive feedback will be obtained from all stakeholders by the end of the pilot implementation, and this will be the basis to modify and revise the current design in the pilot implementation.

The next meeting is planned for March 2014, when Greenpeace will take the lead in organizing the meeting.
