PRTR consultation meeting for factories in Map Ta Phut

On December 26, 2013, the JICA PRTR team paid a visit to Thai Polycarbonate Co., Ltd. (TPCC) and Thai Polyacetal Co., Ltd. (TPAC), the major producers of Polycarbonate/Polyacetal resins in Padaeng Industrial Estate, Map Ta Phut, Rayong. The PRTR team was led by JICA expert Mr. Munehiro Fukuda, and included the key project counterparts, Dr. Sirakarn Leungsakul from the Department of Industrial Works (DIW), Ms. Orrawan Manoonwong, Mr. Nuttawat Rithruangnum, and Mr. Thirapol Kongchon from the Pollution Control Department (PCD), and Dr. Jariya Sukhapan from the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT).

The objective of the visit was to provide a consultation meeting to interested private companies that had started preparation for their emission estimation works in the PRTR pilot implementation. During the meeting, there was active discussion on applicable estimation methods for release and transfer of priority chemicals, considering the onsite data on production processes and chemical handling at the plants. It is expected that TPCC/TPAC will be ready to report the PRTR data in March 2014.

Such consultative meetings demonstrate the commitment and efforts of the private sector in providing their cooperation to the government in the pilot implementation of PRTR. The PRTR team is ready to provide such consultation to other companies/factories upon request.
